Why Two Identical Cars Can Need Different Windshields

Year, make, and model narrow the search. They do not always identify the final part.

Options are built into the glass

A single model may be sold with or without a forward camera, rain sensor, humidity sensor, head-up display area, acoustic interlayer, heated wiper park, antenna, or special mirror mount. Those options can change the glass even when the vehicles look the same from across a parking lot.

Production changes happen mid-year

Manufacturers can change suppliers, brackets, moldings, or equipment during a model year. Body style and plant information may matter. Prior replacement can also leave markings or hardware that need visual confirmation.

A better identification process

This extra check is faster than discovering a mismatch after the old windshield has been removed.

  • Start with the complete VIN.
  • Photograph the camera and mirror area from inside.
  • Photograph the markings in a lower corner of the glass.
  • Mention rain sensors, lane features, heated areas, or head-up display.

Send the VIN and feature photos with your quote request. Identify the correct glass.
