South Carolina Auto Glass Insurance: What the Safety Glass Rule Means in 2026

South Carolina has a specific rule about deductibles for automobile safety glass, but the rule does not add coverage that a policy does not already include.

What Section 38-77-280(B) says

Current as of September 12, 2026, South Carolina Code Section 38-77-280(B) states that an automobile physical damage insurance coverage deductible or policy deductible does not apply to automobile safety glass. When the policy provides the applicable physical-damage coverage and the loss is covered, the deductible does not apply to the covered safety-glass operation.

What the rule does not do

The statute does not create physical-damage or glass coverage that the policy does not otherwise provide. Coverage, exclusions, authorization, claim handling, and which operations are covered depend on the policy, the loss, and the carrier. That includes any decision about whether recalibration is covered. Carolina Auto Glass does not promise a particular claim outcome.

How to approach a claim

Carolina Auto Glass offers direct insurance billing where applicable and can provide the vehicle and replacement details needed for the claim.

  • Confirm that the policy includes the relevant physical-damage coverage.
  • Ask the carrier how the safety-glass claim should be opened and handled.
  • Provide the VIN so the correct windshield and any vehicle-required recalibration can be identified.
  • Ask for a cash quote too if you want to compare both paths.
